How to Save Your Voiceprints - The Bring Your Own Voice Migration Guide
The "Cold Start" Nightmare
Migrating from Amazon Connect Voice ID isn't just about picking new software. It's about your data.
If you have 100,000 customers enrolled in Voice ID, shutting it down means deleting 100,000 voiceprints. If your migration plan is "ask them to re-enroll next time they call," you are effectively destroying your security posture and customer experience on Day 1.
You are asking your customers to do the work for you. Most won't. They'll fail authentication, fall back to KBA (Knowledge Based Authentication), and your handle times will skyrocket.
The Solution: Bring Your Own Voice (BYOV)
The critical feature you must look for in a Voice ID replacement is historical enrollment ingestion. Pindrop calls this "Bring Your Own Voice" (BYOV), and it is the only way to migrate without resetting your security baseline to zero.
How It Works
Instead of waiting for customers to call in, you use your existing asset: Call Recordings.
- Inventory Your Audio: Identify the S3 buckets where your Amazon Connect recordings are stored.
- Batch Ingestion: Pindrop’s ingestion engine processes these historical recordings.
- Passive Enrollment: The system extracts voice features from the audio to create new, high-fidelity voiceprints in the Pindrop Passport environment.
- Day 1 Readiness: When the customer calls next, they are already known. No "Please say your phrase three times." Just seamless authentication.
Why SMS OTP is Not a Strategy
AWS documentation currently suggests migrating to AWS End User Messaging SMS as a DIY alternative.
Let’s be clear: This is a downgrade.
Moving from passive voice biometrics to active SMS OTP increases friction (finding the phone, reading the code) and decreases security (SIM swapping, interception). It turns a 2-second background check into a 30-second interaction.
The Migration Checklist
Before May 20, 2026, you need to answer these three questions:
- Do we have the raw audio? Ensure your retention policies haven't deleted the enrollment calls.
- Is the audio stereo? You need to separate the customer leg from the agent leg for accurate enrollment.
- Can we legally re-process it? Check your T&Cs. Most "fraud prevention and security" clauses cover this, but verify with legal.
The Verdict
Don't let your voiceprints die with the service. Use BYOV to transplant your security identity into a new, more robust body.
